The people behind the grilled cheese problem.
DeepCheese is an exploratory research project studying what it would take to give every person on Earth effectively unlimited grilled cheese. It operates within the Grilled Cheese Instantiation Institute, which currently has a website, letterhead, and no authority over the Sun.
To visualize the institute before staffing it, we created synthetic researchers, facilities, and conference scenes with multimodal image-generation systems. They are provisional colleagues, or holograms like the rest of us, depending on the physics. All people pictured below are synthetic.

A compact problem. An unreasonable amount of love.
Grilled cheese is a compact problem containing heat transfer, chemistry, material behavior, nutrition, logistics, preference, and safety. It is constrained enough to study rigorously and universal enough to matter.
It is also warm, familiar, generous, and very difficult to improve without understanding what makes it good. The project began with a simple conviction: a warm grilled cheese is a small form of human care, and small forms of care should scale.

We are a multidisciplinary group united by a shared belief that hard scientific problems deserve rigor, optimism, and occasionally a cast-iron pan.
Three habits we keep.
Keep the failures
Every checkpoint, rejected recipe, and catastrophic completion stays in the record. If LLM-0 predicts "cheddar" six hundred times without a verb, the run will be preserved.
Label speculation
Every claim on this site is tagged by how real it is: active work, concept study, or long-range. The Dyson Pan is labeled long-range. The tokenizer is labeled active. The difference matters more than the tagline.
Eat the benchmark
Benchmark samples are destroyed after evaluation to prevent leakage. The evaluators handle this personally. Sample 34 performed well and was not seen again.
We simulated robots with pans.
DeepCheese simulated six teams, five humanoid robots, ninety-one flips, one airborne-soup event, and a 41-centimeter cheese pull. The results occupy their own page because even simulated incidents require documentation.
A division of the GCI Institute.
The Grilled Cheese Instantiation Institute sets governance standards, hosts the annual Research Summit, and maintains the Terrestrial Substrate Exclusion List. Earth remains on it.
Visitors are welcome by arrangement. The proposed ventilation model specifies a persistent toasted-bread note in occupied areas. Facilities classifies this as performance.
